Welcome

Welcome to “For The Love of Reading”

A reading site designed for anyone who wants to know more about the reading process! I hope you find this site helpful in navigating through the different topics that encompass all of the areas of reading. Although I created this site as part of my requirement for my Reading Endorsement, my plan is to continue adding new information as I obtain new items of interest.

My Philosophy of Reading

From the time we are born we are exposed to literacy skills which enables us to communicate verbally and nonverbally. As babies we babble and our caretakers talk back. We are exposed to pictures and books and learn to talk by being talked to.  As we enter school we learn to read and write which are essential skills to survive in society.

If the skills are not learned, it puts individuals at risk of having no power over their lives.  Some basic life skills examples are reading directions, writing or reading a letter or email, voting, filling out forms…etc.  All of these skills give an individual power and without these skills they are at risk.  According to the World Literacy Foundation, Individuals who cannot read and write are impacted economically, socially, and are at risk for health problems. If you have no job and no income, an individual’s quality of life can be reduced.  Also, being at risk can lead individuals to lower self-esteem and higher levels of crime which impacts society as a whole.
